Diagnostic Monitor (2019)
5:00 minutes (excerpted), single-channel CRT-monitor installation
Diagnostic Monitor re-imagines family home videos as data to be monitored, and potentially manipulated, while drawing comparisons to medical imaging and speculative biological modification techniques. While audio of domestic conversation plays, ghostly waveforms oscillate across the monitor with haphazard motion, the home video now reduced to a graphical sum of the coloured pixels in the original video. Diagnostic Monitor is a plea to the machine to restore family histories, and a tribute to the role machines play in creating and recording human memories.
