Saidaliyyeh (2019)

 12-minute loop, sculptural video installation

Along the Lebanese main coastal highway - the gateway between Beirut and the mountains - is a river of pharmacies, each flashing green more luridly than the last. Government corruption and mismanagement has left Lebanon with an overeducated population, facing a plummeting economy and mounting unemployment rates. This work likens the political condition of Lebanon to illness, self-evident within infrastructure. Audio is recorded onsite, the mechanic hum of the cars continuous.

English text translation:

We want trials

There is a smell smell smell smell smell

Dear god is it strong

The eternal exodus

I will burn from all this oxygen

Oxygen, and Benzene, and Passports, and Nescafé

I would die for you, to care for you, and forget why I left you
